Super Clint dies

The run of bad luck experienced by Nevele R. Stud, Prebbleton, continued yesterday when their latest importation from the United States, the well-performed Super Clint, died while in quarantine at Trentham. Super Clint developed pneumonia soon after his arrival in New Zealand on April 4. This cleared up satisfactorily, but pleurisy developed on Monday. The stud earlier • had the misfortune to have Andover Rainbow and Meadow Paige die, while Boyden Hanover was unavailable for most of the latest breeding season because of injury and a fertility problem was encountered with Nevele Romeo.

The stud was committed to return Rip Van Winkle to Sydney, and Timely Knight to Melbourne, where he will stand at a fee of $l5OO. Both left for Australia last week. Nat Lobell, El Patron and Boyden Hanover, the three stallions to be based at Prebbleton in 1980-81 are already fully booked, while 70 bookings had been made to Super Clint.

The stud intends investigating the possibilty of obtaining a replacement for Super Clint, which held a mile record of Imin 545. However, they are not confident of being able to secure a suitable horse at such short notice.
