Table tennis clinic
Three of Canterbury’s top table tennis players, Michael Hamel, Stuart Armstrong and Jan Morris, have been selected for a senior national coaching clinic at Wellington over Anzac week-end.
A total of 14 players, eight men and . six women, have been chosen for the course which will be run by the English national coach, Mr Peter Hirst. Mr Hirst made a seven-week tour of New Zealand last winter conduct-
ing coaching seminars. Armstrong, ranked No. 1 in Canterbury last season, has begun 1980 in fine style by retaining his Easter Open singles title while Hamel won the South Island singles and the South Canterbury title last season. Miss Morris ended a relatively disappointing A grade season last year by winning the national women’s singles title when she beat the Australian, Mary Cannon,
