Hamburgers in Square
Wanted, about 2000 hungry stomachs to buy hamburger lunches that will be sold in Cathedral Square at lunchtime today. The Save the Children Fund and the Army will join forces to sell the luncheon — at $1 for a hamburger, an orange drink, and an apple — to raise money for flood-re-lief projects in Fiji. The hamburgers will be made and taken to the Square by the Army, where they will be sold from 11.45 a.m. To help it all go down, the New Zealand Army Band will play. Most of the food had “very generously” been provided by Christchurch businesses, said the New Zealand vice-president of the Save the Children Fund (Mrs Betty Pearson).
