Ban is enforced
The Canterbury Trades Council began enforcing yesterday its black ban on the contracting and civil engineering firm of Musgrove Bros, Ltd. The ban was imposed on Tuesday after the executive of the council met to consider a request by Musgrove workers that the council take over the dis-
pute, which is about redundancy claims. The company is laying off 20 workers. It has declined to agree to pay redundancy payments as sought by the unions but has offered to comply with the guidelines of the Wage Adjustment Regulations. The 60 workers at the Wigram site went on
strike on Tuesday, and will remain on strike until the dispute is settled. No talks with the company were held yesterday, said the secretary of the council (Mr L. G. Morel). The council i>s waiting for tine company to take the initiative in resuming talks.
