Flu bugs in greater variety
PA Wellington A mixed bag of flu bugs can be expected in New Zealand this winter. The Health Department is informed of all strains of influenza present in the Northern Hemisphere during the winter. This year the World Health Organisation has reported a greater variety of strains than usual', said the Deputy Director of Public Health . (Dr R. C. Begg) yesterday. ' ' The two main types , expected were Texas A and Brazil A, he said. Texas flu is similar to the Victoria strain which affected New Zealanders some years ago. The Brazil flu is similar to last year’s Russian flu, he said. “The type As are more epidemic strains although this does not mean we will have an epidemic. The Type Bs turn up fairly regularly and we expect several of these,” Dr Begg said.
