Meat shipment to Iran next week
A ship expected to load at Lyttelton next week could become a pawn in an international chess game if New Zealand follows the lead of the United States and extends trade sanctions against Iran to include food. The Norwegian vessel Hidlefjord is expected to arrive at Lyttelton on or about April 16, direct from Bandar Khomeini, Iran, to take on a cargo of meat. Once loaded, the 5788-ton ship is expected to return directly to Bandar Khomeini. Another interesting export order for the port next week will be about 5000 tonnes 'of barley from the Canterbury N.Z. Malting Company, destined i for Black Sea ports aboard the 16,317-ton bulk carrier Wai-rior.; Most of the ship’s cargo of I barley will be loaded at Timaru | before she arrives at Lyttelton. ' which will be her last New Zea- : land port of call. j The barley loaded al Lyttel;ton will be the first such cargo ■from the port in almost two (rears. The last export of barley) |from New Zealand was in Aug-; ust, 1979, when the total cargo: was loaded at Timaru. ARRIVALS Coastal Trader <7.13 a.m.1.l 2500. Dunedin (S.C.N.Z.).
