Egg grades and prices Sir, — The bewildering changes in the prices of the various grades of eggs has set me wondering. Why is it that our local cook book does not say which grades of eggs are to be used in its recipes? Should cake manufacturers be compelled to tell us which grade of egg they use in their walnut brownies? Could an anarchist tell me the preferred grade for ammunition? What do the rules for egg and spoon races stipulate? Is there anything in the rumour that Mrs Clark prefers a boiled No. 4, whereas Mr Hay has a fried No. 7 with his bacon in the morning? Why do the different grades of eggs come in the same sized carton? Isn’t an egg an egg,, and why are we getting only grade No. 2 oysters so far this season? —Yours, etc., ALAN FALLOON. April 8, 1980.
