Basketball coaches

The Canterbury Basketball Association must be happy with jts coaches. Of the five representative team coaches so far named, four filled the positions last year, and the other was not available.

He was Carl Dickel, now teaching in Wanganui, and he ha's been replaced as the junior men’s coach by Ray Thompson, the experienced Christchurch Boys’ High School man. And for the first-time in nearly 10 years, the women’s senior A team coach is dither re-appointed or available for a second season. Roger Brouwer, the Christchurch Girls’ High School coach, will have the appointment again for the Hertz national championships at Hamilton. One appointment has still to be made. After a split in the voting for the junior women’s team appointment, in which the incumbent, Kerry Williams, and three others, were candidates, the

C.B.A. decided to call for further nominations.

Bob Bishop, at present i coaching Inns of Pacific! University, retains his post: with the Canterbury A men’s! team, and Murray McKay (United Services Aranui)i will stay in charge of the B; team. Last year, their; charges finished third and! sixth respectively, and with| only a little luck, both would; have been in the top four. !

This year’s Hertz, championships are in Auckland from September 8 to 13 and both teams will apply to attend again. Bill Whelan, of Checkers, is the women’s B team coach, and various grade managers are:

Men’s A, Ross Smith; men's B, Colin Mullany; junior men, Mesdames C. Seaward and S. Kemp; women's A, Mrs Trish King: women's B, Mrs Sandra French; junior women, Mary Reynolds.
