N.Z. finishes third
NZPA London New Zealand finished third in the World Junior Squash Championships which ended yesterday in Kungaely, Sweden. The New Zealanders who lost the chance of a final place when they were beaten by Pakistan, had a 2-1 win over England in the match for third. Wayne Rowlands (Gisborne) beat Barry Watkins, 9-1, 9-4. 9-3, and Stuart Davenport (Havelock North)
beat the England captain, David Thomas, 9-1, 9-4, 5-9, 9-3. Hamilton’s Dean Lovett lost to Christy Willstrop, 2-9. 9-3, 5-9, 8-10 — after leading, 8-5, in the fourth game. “We’re pretty happy,” said the team’s manager, Neville Munroe', “although we would have liked a crack at the Australians.” The New Zealand team now returns to England for the British junior championships later this week.
