Under-20 chess tourney
The right to represent New Zealand in two important overseas tournaments will be at stake when the Bu rr o u.g h s Computers national under-20 chess tournament is held at the Christchurch- Teachers’, College from tomorrow until Monday. The winner will be eligible to participate in the world junior championship in Germany in August, and the Asian junior tournament in Iraq in July. Twenty-four competitors, including seven of the top 10 juniors from throughout New Zealand will play in the tournament, which will be over seven rounds.
Among the favoured entrants are Patrick Cordue (Wellington), the. holder of the national premier reserve title, and Tony Dowden. (Dunedin), the present New Zealand school-pupils champion and the 1978 world junior tournament representative.
