Standard signs for cycleways

A national standard for signs and ' road marking for cycleways is wanted by the Waimairi County Council’s works and traffic committee. As a result of ex-, perimentaT work done in Kilmarnock Street, the council has sent a report to the National Roads Board’s signs committee which ris considering a national standard for signs and road marking. Because of the work already done in the county, the. adoption of such a standard was regarded as urgent, the committee has recommended. Litter rangers.— Two honorary ..rangers and lit-ter-prevention officers will probably be appointed by the council for the Sawyers Arms Road motorcycle area ' and for the Waimairi Beach area. The cofnmittee. recommendedthat Mr J. G. Simpson and Mr M. J. Clark who volunteered, be appointed. Traffic patrols.— The

committee was worried that the Ministry of Transport directive to have two traffic officers a vehicle had reduced night patrols by up to 50 per cent. The committee recommended that the council express “grave concern” to the ministry over this matter. “If this continues, consideration should be given to increasing staffing numbers to allow the number of patrols to regain th level preceding the directive.” Rugby clubrooms.— The Burnside Rugby Club will meet the Council’s recreation, planning and development sub-committee to discuss proposals for the alterations to its clubrooms. The proposals . come after the council refused to allow the. club to extend its clubrooms on Bumside Park -to incorporate the existing squash courts. The Bum- ' side Squash Rackets’ Club will also be invited to attend the meeting.
