Israel hits at use of oil weapon
NZPA-Reuter New York Israel said yesterday that “a sbrry parade of nations” was ready to risk Israeli security to get Arab oil. Mr Yehuda . Blum, the chief Israeli delegate, told the United Nations Security Council that ' Arab “petrohegemonists” were using the world’s growing dependence on their oil for blackmail, threatening economic strangulation if the Palestine Liberation Organisation were not satisfied. The Council began debate on a bid by P.L.O. supporters for endorsement of selfdetermination and independent Palestinian statehood. The United States has threatened to veto, if necessary, a resolution in these tc-ms. The West European members also were thought to.be unwilling to vote for it. if their efforts were stymied, P.L.O. sympathisers among the United Nations membership said they would ask for an emergency special session of the General Assembly, where there is no power of veto.
