Court demands Bhutto women

NZPA-Reuter Karachi Pakistan’s military Government has been ordered by a Karachi court to produce the detained widow and daughter of the executed Prime Minister, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, to answer allegations that they abused and assaulted a policewoman and officials guarding them.

The court order was made soon after the same court had given permission for Mrs Musrat Bhutto and Miss Benazir Bhutto to visit the former Prime Minister’s grave between now and Friday to mark the anniversary of his hanging in Rawalpindi Jail last year.

The two women have been under house arrest in their house at Larkana in southern Sind province since last October when the country’s military ruler general, Mohammad Zia-Ul-Haq, cancelled a General Election and banned all political activity. The Bhutto women, who symbolise opposition to Pakistan’s increasingly unpopular military Government, have been denied all contact with the outside world.
