Money pours in for Mr Sides

A Christchurch garage owner, Mr Eric Sides, has been overwhelmed with public gifts and support for his legal wrangle with the Human Rights Commission. The commission is taking a case to the Equal Opportunities Tribunal against Mr Sides, his garage, “The Press,” and the “Christchurch Star” over an advertisement for a “Christian petrol attendant.” Mr Sides has received so many gifts and pledges of suppoit for his case that he has set up an independent trust to handle the money. He said that any money re-

ceived would be used solely for the case, and any. surplus would be refunded proportionately to donors. Any gifts should be sent to the trust at Post Office Box 828, Christchurch, he said. Mr Sides said that at first he had been embarrassed by the donations, but soon realised that he would need all the help he could get to fight the case. “It is obvious ■ from the support I have received that many, people are concerned about the erosion of personal liberties in our so-called free society,” Mr Sides said.
