Reports of sabotage denied

PA Auckland N.Z. Forest Products has denied reports of sabotage at its Kumeu board mill.' It was alleged on television on Monday evening that machinery at the mill was sabotaged some weeks ago, coinciding with the lay-ing-off of staff. The managing director of N.Z. Forest Products (Mr D. Walker) said yesterday that he knew nothing about the reported sabotage. There had been one instance of a loose bolt found in a chipper “but that could well have come from the machinery,” he said. “The police were not called in. If there were sabotage, we would be taking police action and following it up quite energetically.” Mr Walker said the effect of the bolt in the chipper was “very minor.” The plant was working without hitch.
