Late arrivals
Sir, — I attended the play, "Statements,” at the Ngaio Marsh Theatre on March 28. I was shocked and disgusted — not by the play, which was intensely moving and beautifully acted, a powerful indictment of man’s inhumanity to man, but by the behaviour of the audience. Although the play did not begin until some 10 minutes after the advertised starting time of 8.30 p.m. people were still arriving and being shown to their.•seats for about 30 minutes. Iri any play this is disturbing; in a play of this intense nature it was inexcusable. May I suggest to the management that if people do not .have the courtesy to arrive for the beginning they forfeit the price of their tickets, and do not insult the actors and disturb the remainder of the audience, with squeaking entrance doors and tramping feet. — Yours, etc., JILL WILCOX. March 29, 1980.
