No capping festival
No capping festival will be held at the University of Canterbury this year and there will be no capping magazine. Instead the students will hold an autumn festival which will bear no resemblance to the usual capping one. The students’ activities officer, Mr G. Fahey, said students had lost interest in . the relevance of the capping festival, which has traditionally been held about two weeks' before
graduation. He would ask the University Council to arrange lecture-free days for undergraduates about May 5 and 6 so that they could join in the graduation celebrations. Next year he would try to arrange a capping festi-. ' val to coincide with graduation. This year’s festival would include many cultural and social activities and would be. held from April 18 to 21.
