Freighter on fire
NZPA Adelaide One man is missing feared dead after the Lebanese livestock carrier Farid Fares caught fire about midnight on Thursday evening. The carrier was still smoking and drifting about .300 km south of Kangaroo Island off the coast of South Australia last evening.
Seventy-one crew members are en route to Hobart after being rescued by the Polish vessel Denebola at first light yesterday morning. The carrier, which was on the way from northern Tasmania to the Persian Gulf, was also carrying 40,000 sheep, which were believed to have been incinerated in the fire.
