Heaphy track

Sir, — We walked the Heaphy Track at the time the three Aucklanders were drowned. We experienced similar conditions and were extremely lucky not to drown. We believe we were not warned adequately of the danger, In the huts there was no tidal information or advice and the warning sign at Crayfish Point does not emphasise the danger enough.' In Abel Tasman ■National Park we walked along the coast safely with the aid of the explicit warning signs.- We feel that tide charts should be placed in the huts ’and on danger areas on the beach. Another tramper told us of harrowing experiences of bis and those of another party« In January he spoke, to a ranger of narrow escape. — Yours, etc., CORNELIA.JAISER, ISOLDE RATH, West Germany., March 26, 1980,
