“Ram” magazine
Sir, — If your correspondent, A. Le Cren (March 25) considered the “Ram” magazine “filth,” why did he buy it in the first place, if he did buy it at all? There is no obligation’ to buy. the magazine, of which half was not even pornographic (“Ram goes half way”). I considered it a harmless form of amusement used to raise funds for the college and also for worth-while charities. Surely there are more important issues such as the threatened life of the Indonesian student, Jose Satyadharma, than a magazine that is all in good fun.- — Yours, etc.,
D. LEDGARD. March 25, 1980. Sir, — I strongly object to Mr Newton Dodge deciding for me what 1 am allowed to read. As it happened, I did not buy a “Ram” magazine, because 1 chose not to. I do not want anyone representing a minority group, interfering with my personal rights. The answer is simple; if you do not like it, do not buy it. —Yours, etc..
KEITH McCALLUM. March 26, 1980. Sir, — With -what knowledge did A. Le Cren (March 25) judge Ram as filth? Was it that the neighbours deplored it, w'hile secretly reading the copy circulating the office, or accidentally glance at one over a shoulder on the bus, or even perhaps buy one, only to check it out, mind. Or is it just common knowledge? — Yours, etc.,
L. M. PONSONBY. March 25, 1980.
