Slip blocks road
PA Dunedin A huge slip has closed | State highway 8 between Roxburgh and Alexandra and pushed the road more than a metre higher than its normal position. Earth movements began early yesterday afternoon on the section of road at Chasm Creek about Bkm west of the Roxburgh hydro village. The highway was closed at 4.30 p.m. as the movement became steadily worse. Soon after, the. whole hillside came crashing down on a front 100 m wide, lifting the road 1.5 m.
By late last evening the slip was still moving at a rate of about' 1.5 m every half-hour. ■
