Escapee remanded
A remand prisoner who escaped - from the custody of a prison officer at the Supreme Court on January 25 appeared briefly in the Magistrate’s Court at Christchurch yesterday. Hamish Keith McDougall, aged 25, pleaded guilty to a charge, of escape from custody. He was remanded to March 5 for a probation report and sentencing. McDougall had been arrested on drug charges. On
October 25 he had been remanded in custody for trial, said Sergeant M. P. Caldwell. On January 25 he had gone to the Supreme Court, with his solicitor, to apply for bail. His application had been declined and when told McDougall had. “pushed away” from an . Addington prison officer and fled from the Supreme Court. He had been found later by the police in Rotorua.
