Big offer turned down

PA Auckland; An offer of $lOO,OOO for the talented Auckland two-year-old, Captain Smooth, has been turned down by Mr E. J. Bennett, the owner of the gelding. Captain Smooth, by Smiith Hanover from Portmadoc, has had five starts this term for four wins and a second. The offer was made by the Pukekohe trainer, J. Carsons, on behalf of American clients. A prime reason for Carsons wanting to secure Captain Smooth was that the gelding would be eligible to compete in the first SIM race for ' standardbredS or gallopers, which is to be staged’.at the Meadowlands track irf New Jersey later this year.
