Fullbore rifle shoot
Malvern had only one point to spare against Ashburton in the annual fullbore rifle shoot for the Jack Shield held in cool overcast conditions at West Melton at the week-end. The standard of shooting was extremely high among the teams of five, Malvern prevailing with 502.53 against Ashburton’s 501.45. The contest was held over 300, 500 and 600yds. The top score was returned by one of Canterbury’s promising
marksmen, Bill M c p°olt church) with 103.10. Other top scorers were: L. Smith. (Malvern), 103.12; G. R. H. Smith (Malvern), 102.14; G. Webb (Ashburton), 102.10: A. Cameron (Ashburton), 101 11- G. Marshall (Malvern), IOLII B. Hunt (Ashburton), 101.10; J. P. Marshall (Malvern), 10 a' 3 B grade contest for the Banks Peninsula Shield was won by Ashburton (497.40) from Sydenham (485.29).
