Agricultural expansion
Sir, —On reading the report on the front page of February 23 on the remarks of the Prime Minister, Mr Muldoon, on the “undreamed” expansion of New Zealand, I could not help' wondering how the Prime Minister hopes to achieve the increased use of suitable land for agricultural and horticultural products when right at this very moment people of our district are fighting very hard for the dismissal of plans fbr a rubbish disposal and transfer station which, if allowed to go ahead, will be sited on some of the most fertile soil in the district. If plans of this nature are allowed to develop and go ahead, not only here,, but in other parts of the country as well, we will quickly find that there is not the added “suitable” land to offer the Prime Minister and New Zealand.—Yours, etc., JUDITH SISSON. February 23,1980.
