Maths pupils invited
New Zealand school pupils have been invited to enter an Australian mathematics competition that has been, opened to other countries for the first time this year. The competition, which last year attracted entries from 102,000 high school pupils in Australia, is sponsored by the Canberra College of Advanced Friii.

This year the competition has been extended to include New Zealand; Papua New Guinea, Fiji, and other countries in the south-west Pacific. Mr N. J. Gale, president of the New Zealand Association of Mathematics Teachers, said that the association supported the contest because it encouraged pupils to increase their efficiency in mathematics and promoted an interest in the subject. Secondary schools ■ in Christchurch will receive details of the competition this month. Entries will close in Canberra on March 31.
