Small-bore shooting
Mayfield’s John Fleming, the New Zealand Olympic trialist, won the South Island outdoor small-bore rifle shooting championship in ideal weather at the Lynnford range, near Hinds, 'during the week-end. He shot 395.22 to edge out J. Scott (Pleasant Point) by one inner bull. Scott shot 395.21. J. Neale (Christchurch) had 393.17 and R. Davies (Ch) 392.24. Mrs J. Beattie (Ch) shot 393.17 to win the B grade from Mrs J. MacKenzie (Ch) on 392.22. F. L. E. Smith (Ch) won the C grade with 371.10 and M. McMullan (Ch) the D with 369.11. The South Island selectors (Messrs A. Mann, L. Taylor, B. Blackie and N.- Scadden)
announced the following team to represent South against North Island at Wanganui during Easter weekend:—
