NZPA Melbourne The legendary Paleface Adios created Australian and New Zealand racing history when he became the first horse to notch a century of wins with an effortless victory in the Cranboume Cup yesterday! Palface Adios notched his magical century of wins in the easiest of fashion. ' “Old Baldy,” as he is
known, started at the luxury odds of even money favourite and gave his backers little concern as he cruised to a 12m victory from Mark Radium, 6-1. Winsaffair the outsider of the field at 60-1, battled on well to be a metre away third. Yesterday’s win also saw Paleface Adios take his stake winnings past the 5565,000 mark. The 10-year-old has now raced on a remarkable 207
occasions for 100 wins and 59 placings. However, “Paleface” is well behind the world record number of wins established by the American trotter, Goldsmith Maid, which won more than 200 races during the 1850 s. Paleface Adios, driven by trainer-driver Colin Pike, always looked set to bring up his hundredth win as he was perfectly positioned three places back in the running throughout.
Pik« set the chestnut alight 606 m from home and within a matter of 200 m Paleface Adios had scorched to the lead. A near-record crowd at Cranboume rose to their feet as the “Temora Terror,” charged into the straight with an unbeatable lead.
A crescendo of applause greeted "Paleface,” as he was brought back to scale.
