Smithfield market
The United Kingdom wholesale market for New Zealand lamb last week was subdued, compared with the momentum of the previous two weeks, but the tone of the market was firm and Smithfield prices improved another halfpence, the N.Z. Meat Producers’ Board said in its weekly market report. Prices for New Zealand lamb on Smithfield, with the variation on the previous week, were:— Price Var'n P P per lb per lb PE .. .. 53.5-54.0 +l.OO PM ■ • 51.0-52.0 +l.OO
U.S. BEEF MARKET Indifferent consumer demand and heavy Australian arrivals caused a downturn in the imported beef market in the United States last week, the board said. Prices for N.Z. cow beef averaged 128 c per pound on a c.i.f. basis, 4c lower than a week ago. MUTTON Despite reports of further! sales of New Zealand mut-i ton to the Soviet Union, there was little trading in the product in Japan for this time of the year.
