Street litter
Sir, — I agree wholeheartedly with Mrs Mclnerney, of Adelaide. Our streets are litter-ridden and a disgrace to our so-called Garden City. If Cr Brittenden and his colleagues would take a walk in the early morning through the business area they would be appalled at the amount of rubbish left lying about. Burst-open rubbish bags are left on the footpaths, instead of being removed and the owners penalised in some way. Also, some shop frontages, especially in the Cashel Street
west area, are an eyesore in contrast to those in Colombo Street north. Could the City Council exert some influence on the owners to freshen up their properties before the Arts Festival in March? We must not be on the defensive about our city; although we have much to be proud of, there is always room for improvement. — Yours, etc., M. B. COX. February 22, 1980.
