Park picked for squad
The former New Zealand soccer representative, lan Park, will join the national side in New Caledonia ■ next week.
Park, • captain of Trans Tours United, will fly to Noumea after the New Zealand captain, Tony Sibley, failed to pass a fitness test before the international against Fiji at. Lautoka.' . The New - Zealand coach,
John Adshead, said that a final decision on whether Sibley would return home would not be made until Monday. It seems likely, however, that Sibley will remain with the squad, because ’ his injured ankle is responding to treatment. ■ “It is one of those annoying things,” said Mr Adshead last evening. “If he
was at home I he would almost certainly be playing within a week,, but we just can’t afford to go into such a tough tournament without a full-strength squad.” Initially-Mr Adshead had sought Ron Armstrong as tire replacement, but the Mount Wellington defender was unable to travel because of business commitments.
