Few gains shown
Many stocks managed to push off their 10. ’, but few were up on the day as foreign investors took another rest from the Australian market yesterday. The market continues to be: influenced by commodity prices on overseas markets, despite recent price rises by Australian base .metal producers. B.H.P. stopped its slide with a 5c gain to 1340 c after announcing a record steel production of 764,000 tonnes in January. CSR,- Australias biggest sugar producer, fell another 14c to 640 c in the wake of tumbling sugar prices. A strong recovery by copper in London pushed Bougainville up 10c to 430 c; and
MIM up 10c to 560 c, but erratic gold markets took a toll of gold miners.
