Romney values up
Although buying power was : quite weak at the second i strong-wool two-tooth ewe fair : in Ashburton yesterday, prices : for Romneys, which reached $46, : were far better than last year. I Main interest came from Mid- ; Canterbury buyers and they ; competed fiercely for the 14,500 , two-tooths offered. Pens often ■ sold over $4O and there were ' few sales below- $3O. j The sale started a little diffi- i dently, but after three races were sold auctioneers found < selling quite easy. j There were only a few pens : passed in and some of these i were sold as the sale progressed. ' The yarding, over all, was an : excellent offering with only a ! few pens of the smaller type of ] sheep. i Best Romneys were to $46, : good $37 to $4l, medium to good i $32 to 536, medium $2B to $3l, i ind small to medium 524 to $27. i Top price of the day went to i Mereoak Farm (Mayfield) for a ; pen of 108 Romneys at $46. ] They also sold 119 at $34.25 and ; 108 at $35.25. i Other leading sales Included: I E.
