Doctors accept plan
PA Wellington. The Minister of Health’s spending plan for expensive hospital equipment has been accepted by the Medical Assocation as reasonable in the light of the economic climate. Mr Gain has announced a three-year national and regional programme of high-cost medical technology covering such items as cardiology, neurosurgery, and cancer equip-, ment.
The Medical Association’s chairman (Dr B. G. Jew) said that it was a reasonable move. “I hope it will lead to more regional use being made of very expensive capital equipment.” While there may be individual disappointments about the allocations, the Medical Association recognised that not only .were the machines very expensive to buy but very expensive to run.
