Mary Isabel leads all the way

The Invercargill-trained mare, Mary Isabel, made amends for a disppointing sixth in the Breeders’ Stakes last week with an all-the-way win in the Flying Stakes.

The daughter of Young Charles, driven by her trainer, Henry Skinner, set a torrid pace and rated 2min 0.7 s for the 2000 m. She fought back strongly when challenged by Timely Robin and won by a short length. Timely Robin did well for second after being in the open for much of the way, with the converted trotter, Sharmbro, trailing and holding on for third, clear of Bronze Queen, Majestic Major, which came on steadily, and Crossfire.
