Fines of $1550
Fines totalling $1550 have been imposed on the . Te Kauwhata studmaster, I. M. Behrns, by the executive of the Trotting Conference. Behrns was fined $5.0 on each of 31 counts of failing to furnish returns for mares covered by the stallion, Country Road, in the 197576, 1976-77 and 1977-78 breeding seasons. In each case the mare was not in foal. D. C. Jessop, a studmaster, of Waiuku, was fined $5 on each of 20 counts of failing to return sendee certificates for the 1978-79 season by the due date. The returns vvere lodged almost 11 months late. r The executive was concerned at the consequences of such negligence and errors on fertility percentages and on the authenticity of the Trotting Stud Book, said the chief executive officer of the • conference, Mr John Rowley.. The future welfare of the breeding industry relied on the integrity of studmasters and where breaches of the rules were detected, disiplinary action would follow, he said.
