Water limits in Heathcote
Water restrictions were brought into force in Heathcote County yesterday. Low levels in the two local reservoirs meant that some Cashmere residents almost had a dry Christmas. But the County Engineer (Mr D. May) said the situation was much better yesterday. On Monday evening the Takahe and Victoria Park reservoirs were almost empty. Mr Mav said about 30 or 40 residents ran out of water on Christmas Eve. Some did not get water until 10 a.m. on Christmas Day. The reservoirs usually got
t'very low at this time of -•year, but the hot dry weather last week-end had made 5 the situation worse. Mr May t said some people had left 5 hoses running on their gar- . dens all night. r The water restrictions pro- - hibit the use of hoses for ;■ watering gardens or lawns. unless they are held by > hand, until January 3. Mr May said the Victoria . Park reservoir was about ) two-thirds full and the Ta- ’ kahe reservoir about halffull. Their levels usually fluctuated, but they were t normally fairly full.
