Flooding likely
PA Timaru The rising levels of the Waitaki Valley lakes and Lake Tekapo may bring some flooding today’. Floodwaters have caused the lakes to reach record levels. Water is flow’ing over the Benmore dam for the first time for many years and this has caused Lake Aviemore and Lake Waitaki to fill. Large volumes of water are being let into the Waitaki River and a controlled flood is likely in the river today. It is estimated that flows will reach the biggest volume for many years, and these will probably cause the river to flow bank to bank.
