Rescue by crane

PA Wellington A Wellington man spent Christmas Day in hospital after being hauled up the Titahi Bay cliffs by a crane soon after midnight. Mr Rangi Briscoe, of Wilberforce Street, Miramar, fell about 9 metres over the cliffs at Terrace Road, injuring his back. Firemen. ambulance officers, and the police were called by the injured man’s friends. It is not known why Mr Briscoe fell down the cliff, but the police will not investigate further. A garage crane was used to lilt the man tip the cliff in a stretcher. “He was a very big fellow,” said Mr D. Collins, the proprietor of a Porirua garage. Ambulance officers treated the injured man and took him to Wellington Hospital, where he was in a satisfactory condition last evening.
