Acid spill at Lyttelton
Firemen used fully protective "delta suits” to deal with an acid spillage at Lyttelton on Monday. A L'nion Steam Ship Company shed on Gladstone Pier was' cleared at 1.15 pm after the acid leaked on to a container and began to give off toxic fumes. Firemen used hoses to wash away the spillage. Nobodv was affected. Half an hour later, fire •destroyed a shed and two stacks of timber at 329 Burv.ood Road. The cause of the blaze was not known.
