N.Z. wins team cycling

NZPA Noumea New Zealand won the two road team races while Australia’s Tucker brothers won senior and junior track titles at the Oceania cycling championships at Noumea over the week-end. Mike Richards, of New Zealand, was beaten into second place by Australia’s Commonwealth Games star, Kenrick Tucker in the senior kilometre event. Tucker won in the Australian record time of 1 minute 8.42 seconds.

Tucker’s brother, Byron, won the junior event in 1:10.99. The New Zealand team of Mike Richards, Wayne Perkinson, Mike Bosonworth and Graeme Miller beat Australia into second place in the senior team race over 70 kilometres, clocking one hour 43 minutes 29 seconds. The junior event over 40 kilometres went to New Zealand’s Brian Fowler, Tony Catterick, Steven Carton and Shane Smith in 56 minutes 21.70 seconds.
