University position for playwright
The University of Canter-( bury’s second writer-in-resid-ence, Jennifer Compton, of] Wellington, will take up her! appointment in March next year. Mrs Compton, who des-! cribes herself as a “freelance: writer and part-time shop' girl,” has published a number I of articles in “Landfall” and other literary magazines. She has written several radio plays which have been! produced in Australia and New Zealand. (radio plays, Mrs Compton’s (story, “The Man Who Died | Twice,” was winner of the I Katherine Mansfield and Bank of New Zealand memorial (short story award. At present she is working ion two stage plays, a number of poems and short stories, land a technical novel entitled “Knitting is an Art Form.” The post of writer-in-resi-dence is held for six months and carries with it a salary of $6OOO. The university’s (first writer-in-residence was a Auckland author, Michael Morrissey, who held the post earlier this year.
