Britain and Olympics
Sir, — It seems that. South Africa can never be right. If the Springboks are all whites, that is wrong. If the Barbarians are black, tan and white, that is also wrong. Now it seems that there may be a black boycott of the 1980 Olympics if Britain (now hosting the Barbarians) participates. Perhaps the “white” nations of the world ought to boycott the Olympics to demonstrate their opposition to the inclusion of “black” States who do most of their trading with South Africa. In fact, it may be time to close down the Olympics entirety. — Yours, etc.. S. WESTERMANN. October 8, 1979.
