Duties shall relate to the construction and maintenance of port facilities and the maintenance of plant, machinery and equipment under the Board's control. The Papua New Guinea Harbours Board is a Statutory Body which at present controls and operates sixteen ports. The Senior Works Officer will be stationed in Port Moresby but will be required to make regular visits to the ports and facilities under the Board's control, for this reason the position would best suit a person without family commitments. He will carry out duties under direction of the Chief Engineer and should have extensive and varied experience in the construction and maintenance of port facilities. However the position could well suit a practical young Engineer who seeks overseas experience. The position calls for resource adaptability, administration ability and a willingness to work with and train Papua New Guineans. Conditions of service are set by the Public Service Commission with whom a contract will be signed. The conditions include 9 weeks leave and fares to New Zealand every 18 months, and a subsidy toward removal expenses. A-furnished residence will be provided free of charge.
