Craig’s Gold is destroyed
Special correspondent Invercargill Craig’s Gold, was destroyed after a float accident on the way to Dunedin last week when her hip was broken in three places. The accident occurred between Hampden and Moeraki, south of Oamaru, when the tow bar of the car broke off while travelling downhill. Her Ashburton trainer, Eddie Brooks, tried to slow {the vehicle when he knew (something was amiss, but
when he veered to the left the float took its own course. The draw bar cata- ■ pulted and the float crashed. The grey Kazakstaan-Joy . Gold mare was a talented i three-year-old filly two seasons back when she won ■ four races and was eight ■ times placed for almost i $7OOO in stakes. Her best j win was in the Princess ■ Mellay Stakes at Gore, when , she beat a good field, inr eluding Polly Porter, Fei lucca, The Fantasy, Mellseur tland Regina Caeli.
