Special award retained
The Lion "player of the day” points award for the senior Canterbury Cricket competition will continue this season.
Run on the same lines as last year, points are allocated on a 3,2, 1 basis each day to the best three players. These are tallied up until the end of the competition.
Last season, Bill Thomson, the durable Sydenham opening batsman, was the winner. He began the season very well, and eventually won by three points from Cran Bull and Dayle Hadlee, both of High School Old Boys. The award is judged on a player’s contribution to his team’s performance, not necessarily on the amount of runs or the number of wickets taken. The first prize is $250.
