Paint prices rise
| PA Auckland I Several paint companies ' have raised their prices by between 8 per cent and 12 per cent, and other firms are expected to follow suit. Berger has lifted its prices 12 per cent and Taubmans, 10 per cent. Paint rose about 8 per cent in June, and another similar increase is expected before the New Year. Rising oil prices and the decision by the Government to devalue the dollar 5 per cent were the main factors behind this month’s increase. Oil-based products make up nearly two-thirds of the raw materials for paint. The other two main products are titanium and resins. The marketing manager for one manufacturer said New Zealand was only now feeling the effects of devaluation and the- oil price rise. As long as oil costs continued to rise, New Zealand could expect another increase in paint prices at the end of the year.
