Soccer clubs criticised
The attitude of several leading Christchurch soccer clubs to the now-cancelled Canterbury Football Association seventy-fifth jubilee dinner was described as , “apathetic” by the convener of the organising committee .(Mr Stuart Burns). ; The association was forced | to call off the function due ' to a lack of support from certain clubs. “The apathy shown by the clubs was shocking,” said Mr Burns. He cited Western. Papanui W.M.C., Halswell United and Nomads as clubs who failed to make much
headway in ticket sales. On the other hand, he praised Technical, a club which sold all its allocation and requested more. “The clubs criticise the] C.F.A. for doing nothing for them. But you try to do something and look what happens. What do they want?” said Mr Burns. The cancellation was especially disappointing as many former Christchurch players and administrators, now living in Australia and other parts of New Zealand, had expressed a desire to attend the dinner, which had been set down for October 20. i
