H.A.R.T. protests
Sir. — It is time that the hr- adcasting media ceased giving free publicity to the dissident group, H.A.R.T. They were shown once again this week as individuals who should not be wasting time on protests, but engaged on more worth-while projects such as community service. Many countries are committing on their people much worse atrocities than compulsory apartheid, a mild practice by comparison, yet when their nationals visit New Zealand, H.A.R.T. stages no protest; it is obsessed with South Africa. Is it tl>° case that the members of H.A.R.T. object to any part of Africa having a white Government? Conditions in several black-ruled African countries are very much worse for the native population than those of the black South Africans, and yet no protests are held when nationals from those countries visit New Zealand. The Kenyans did not protest when white nationals of South Africa attended a conference there last year. — Yours, etc.,
R. V. SHAW September 26, 1979.
