Sixteen arrests at Eden Park
PA Auckland Eden Park on Saturday was the scene for an Eng-lish-style spectators’ flareup rarely seen at sports fixtures in New Zealand. Sixteen arrests were made for fighting, offensive language and disorderly behaviour. The amount of fighting and beer can throwing at the big match was the worst he could recall at a rugby game, said Chief Inspector J. W. Wooders yesterday. But he said police had often been called on to deal with worse at cricket matches, when more alcohol was consumed at the park over longer periods.
